Maryland Board of Certified Interior Designers

Welcome to our home page. The State Board of Certified Interior Designers certifies and regulates certified interior designers under the provisions of Business Occupations and Professions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 8 and the Code of Maryland Regulations 09.18. The Board also investigates complaints against certified interior designers.

The offices of the State Board of Certified Interior Designers are open and serving our customers through our online licensing resources, via e-mail and telephone, and by limited in-person appointments. Please note, walk-in assistance is not available. We can be reached using our contacts page for e-mail addresses and telephone numbers of individual staff members; or

Use Labor’s Central Scheduling System to meet with a representative from one of our boards or commissions. Please select the type of appointment you need from our list of available in-person services using the drop-down menu on the scheduler. You will receive an e-mail confirming the date and time of your appointment.

Appointments are available Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at our offices located at 100 S. Charles St., Tower 1 Baltimore, MD 21201. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

New Board Chair, Maryland State Board of Certified Interior Designers

On October 14, 2025, during its quarterly business meeting, the Board for Certified Interior Designers elected Carmen Parsons Sneed as the new chairperson. Carmen Parsons Sneed, NCIDQ, IIDA, is an independent senior designer and project manager. She holds a master's and a bachelor’s degree in architecture as well as a Bachelor of Science in Urban Affairs. With over 30 years of experience, she has worked in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, first in multifamily housing and then in commercial interior design. She has worked at commercial interiors firms in the DMV area and has experience with the federal government. Carmen is committed to service, as demonstrated by her time with the Maryland Board of Certified Interior Designers, her service as an advisory board member at a local university design school, and her volunteer efforts within and outside the design community. Throughout her career, she has mentored young design professionals and encouraged them to continue their path to licensure. She further supports the profession through her work on various IIDA teams and committees and through her collaborations with CIDQ.
