Maryland Gains 4,700 Jobs in June

Unemployment Rate Decreased to 2.0% - Fifth Consecutive Record Low

BALTIMORE, MD (July 21, 2023) – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released state jobs and unemployment data today. According to the preliminary survey data, Maryland gained 4,700 jobs in June, and the unemployment rate decreased 0.4 points to 2.0%. This is the fifth consecutive month of record-setting low unemployment for Maryland. 

The Mining, Logging and Construction sector experienced the most growth with an increase of 3,900 jobs. 

Other sectors adding jobs include: Leisure and Hospitality (2,800); Professional and Business Services (1,300); Private Education and Health Services (800); and the Public sector (700).

Sectors that experienced a decline include: Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (2,200); Information (800); Other Services (700); Manufacturing (600); and Financial Activities (500).
