Image Hints and Tips
When you take a picture of your government-issued photo identification, please keep the following best practices in mind.
- Format and Image Quality - Your image is required to be in the right format (either JPG, BMP, PNG or TIFF) and a high-quality image (at least 300 dpi).
- Rotation - The image must be properly aligned and not rotated, tilted, or skewed.
- Glares and Shadows - To be acceptable, there should be no glaring or shaded areas on the image.
- Cropping - Ensure the image is tightly cropped with minimal background. Also, please be sure that the entire image is visible and that a portion was not cut off.
- Obscuring the Image - An image that is partially obscured, such as if your thumb or finger is blocking part of the image, will not be accepted. The whole image must be visible.
- Image Capture Area - If you are using a picture of your passport, please ensure you only capture the necessary part of the document (the portion with your personal information on it, including name, address, passport number, etc.).
